Constance Marten Writes Love Letters to Mark Gordon from Prison
Convicted child killer Constance Marten has reportedly sent a series of love letters to her former partner Mark Gordon, despite being barred from contacting him while serving her prison sentence. Marten is currently incarcerated at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, where she is serving a 14-year sentence for the manslaughter of their newborn daughter, Victoria. Gordon, who received the same sentence, is also prohibited from contacting Marten.
Sources indicate that Marten, 38, has disregarded prison regulations by continuing to send letters to Gordon, which prison staff must read before they are delivered. These letters are said to be a reflection of her desire to reconnect with Gordon. Additionally, Marten has violated a separate ban preventing her from writing to her four children, who are currently in care.
Marten is housed in a high-security unit known as the “female Monster Mansion,” alongside other serious offenders, including Lucy Letby, a former nurse convicted of multiple murders. Reports suggest that Marten has shown reluctance to interact with fellow inmates, often isolating herself in her cell.
The couple’s criminal history is marked by a tragic series of events. They went on the run with their fifth child, Victoria, in December 2022, after authorities took their first four children into care. Tragically, Victoria’s decomposed body was discovered in a Lidl bag at a Sussex allotment in January 2023, leading to their arrest.
During their trial, Judge Mark Lucraft KC condemned Marten and Gordon for their behavior, which included passing notes while in court. Both were ordered to serve at least two-thirds of their sentences for the crime of gross negligence manslaughter.
According to a spokesperson for Sodexo, the company that manages Bronzefield Prison, they are unable to comment on individual cases.
The timeline of Marten and Gordon’s evasion from law enforcement is alarming. They sparked a nationwide manhunt that lasted for 54 days, during which they moved frequently between locations, staying in various hotels and evading police detection. Their journey began on December 20, 2022, when they checked into a holiday cottage in Northumberland, which was reported to have been left in disarray.
As the couple traveled across the UK, they were frequently seen in suspicious circumstances. Notably, on January 5, 2023, police discovered evidence of a deceased infant, including placenta and burner phones, in a vehicle they had abandoned. Their movements over the following weeks included various hotel stays and taxi rides, often without any visible sign of a baby.
The couple’s circumstances became increasingly desperate as they continued to avoid detection. On February 1, 2023, they were seen in Brighton, where they were later arrested. The investigation culminated in the tragic discovery of Victoria’s body, emphasizing the severe implications of their actions.
Marten’s continued correspondence with Gordon raises questions about prison regulations and the psychological impact of their circumstances. As both serve their sentences, the implications of their actions resonate deeply within the public and legal communities, highlighting the tragic consequences of their decisions.
