The A9 road near Aviemore has reopened following a significant accident involving a car and a van that led to a nearly seven-hour closure of this vital route connecting Inverness and Perth. Emergency services were alerted shortly before 20:30 on March 25, 2024. The incident occurred between the Lynwilg and Granish junctions, close to the Macdonald Aviemore Resort.

Emergency responders, including teams from Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, arrived on the scene to manage the situation. According to a spokeswoman from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, they received the call at 20:34 and dispatched three fire appliances along with a heavy rescue unit to assist at the crash site.

The spokeswoman stated, “We assisted before leaving the scene at 21:51.” While the emergency response was swift, details about potential casualties have not yet been confirmed. Police Scotland has been contacted for further information regarding the incident and any injuries that may have occurred.

Traffic Scotland reported that the A9 was fully reopened at 03:25 on March 26, allowing vehicles to resume their journeys along this crucial transport route. The temporary closure of the A9 caused delays for motorists and impacted traffic in the surrounding areas.
