A new business venture has emerged in Elgin, with local resident Mairi Ingram officially launching her flower shop, Mara Flower Studio. Ingram signed the lease for her new establishment at 1 Pluscarden Road on September 8, marking a significant step in her career as a florist.

Originally from Dingwall, Ingram has spent nearly two decades in the Moray region and has accumulated almost ten years of experience in floristry. Her journey began as a trainee at the Bay Tree Florists in Elgin, where she cultivated her passion for floral design. Reflecting on her career path, Ingram stated, “I think it was the first job I really enjoyed doing. Every other job just felt like you’re having to go to work every day, whereas with flowers it was a lot more enjoyable.”

The idea of starting her own business began to take shape about a year ago. Ingram mentioned that it took considerable time to build her confidence. “One of my friends kept telling me I could do it and she gave me that kind of boost,” she explained. After exploring various locations in Elgin, she found the shop on Pluscarden Road to be ideally situated for her new venture.

Preparations Underway for Opening

With the lease now signed, Ingram faces a busy period of preparation before the shop can officially open its doors. She has begun clearing out items left by the previous tenant and is working on logistics for a new door and sign. Decorative efforts are also in progress to create an inviting atmosphere for customers.

Ingram is optimistic about a potential opening in November. Yet, she admits that the prospect of running her own business carries a mix of excitement and apprehension. “It’s really exciting but scary at the same time,” she said. “It’s going to be really exciting to see my ideas come to life and not having to check with anybody else.”

Ingram acknowledges some concerns, particularly regarding the administrative side of the business. Fortunately, her husband, who is self-employed, is expected to provide support in navigating these challenges. “We’ve got the whole family here, so they’ve all been really supportive, and so have my friends,” she noted.

As she embarks on this new chapter, Ingram’s passion for floristry and her commitment to providing quality service will likely resonate with customers in the Elgin community. The launch of Mara Flower Studio signifies not only a personal achievement for Ingram but also a fresh addition to the local business landscape.
