Hamas Agrees to Aspects of Trump’s Gaza War Plan, Seeks Talks
Hamas has indicated its acceptance of certain elements of Donald Trump‘s proposal aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The group has agreed to the release of Israeli hostages but seeks further negotiations on several other stipulations outlined in the 20-point plan. This response comes after Trump set a deadline for Hamas to either accept or reject the terms by Sunday.
In an official statement shared with Reuters, Hamas acknowledged the efforts made by Arab, Islamic, and international entities, including Trump, to facilitate an end to hostilities. The group expressed appreciation for initiatives concerning the exchange of prisoners and the immediate provision of humanitarian aid. Notably, Hamas did not confirm whether it would comply with the demand to disarm, a condition that both the United States and Israel have previously insisted upon.
Hamas stated that it is prepared to release all prisoners held under occupation, which includes both living individuals and remains, based on the exchange formula proposed by Trump. The statement emphasized Hamas’s willingness to enter negotiations through mediators to discuss the specifics of the plan.
In a significant gesture, Hamas expressed readiness to transfer governance of the Gaza Strip to a body of Palestinian independents, or technocrats, as part of a broader national consensus. This proposal aims to secure support from both Arab and Islamic nations.
The White House has yet to respond to Hamas’s statement regarding the proposal, which has garnered backing from Israel and various Arab and European powers. Trump’s plan includes several key provisions: an immediate ceasefire, the exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the establishment of a transitional government led by an international body.
As discussions progress, the international community watches closely to see how the situation will unfold and whether further negotiations will bring lasting peace to the region.
