Bournemouth Triumphs 3-1 Over Fulham with Semenyo’s Brilliance
Bournemouth achieved a significant turnaround on March 15, 2024, defeating Fulham 3-1 at the Vitality Stadium. This victory propelled the Cherries to second place in the Premier League table, just one point behind leaders Liverpool. The match showcased the remarkable talents of Antoine Semenyo, who scored two goals, and Justin Kluivert, who contributed with a stunning long-range strike.
The game began under challenging conditions, with rain pouring down on the south coast. Bournemouth, managed by Andoni Iraola, faced adversity when Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon put the visitors ahead in the 70th minute after a well-executed one-two with substitute Samuel Chukwueze. The Cottagers appeared poised to hand Bournemouth their first defeat in the top flight since the season opener.
However, Semenyo turned the tide for the Cherries, equalizing in the 78th minute. He skillfully maneuvered past Timothy Castagne on the left flank and finished through the legs of Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno from a tight angle. Just six minutes later, Kluivert made his mark, launching a powerful shot into the top-left corner, marking his first goal of the season.
Semenyo then sealed the victory, scoring his second goal in the sixth minute of added time. He executed a clinical finish following a counter-attack initiated by teammate Ben Gannon-Doak. Semenyo’s performance not only secured the win but also brought his tally to six goals for the current campaign.
Kluivert praised Semenyo’s contributions in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, stating, “He is incredible; he shows it every game now. He is just world-class. We are glad to have him, and that is why I said we have a good team.” He added, “It’s a big statement. Losing 1-0 and having the team spirit to come back is incredible.”
This victory extends Bournemouth’s unbeaten streak to six matches, solidifying their position as serious contenders in the Premier League. Manager Iraola acknowledged the impact of his players, saying, “Antoine and Justin made the difference. The first two goals were amazing.”
In contrast, Fulham, now sitting 11th in the table, struggled to capitalize on their initial lead. The team has yet to secure an away victory this season, amassing only eight points from seven matches. Manager Marco Silva expressed his frustration with the loss, highlighting the team’s control of the match prior to Bournemouth’s comeback. “We scored a great collective goal, and the game was completely under control. Until they equalized, they had zero chances,” he noted.
The match showcased not only the resilience of Bournemouth but also the individual brilliance of Semenyo and Kluivert. As the season progresses, both teams will aim to improve their standings, with Bournemouth looking to maintain their momentum while Fulham seeks to find their form.
