Invergordon Welcomes 200,000 Cruise Passengers in £19 Million Season
A Highland port has concluded a successful cruise season, attracting approximately 200,000 passengers and over 50,000 crew members to Invergordon. The season, which ran from April to this week, generated an estimated £19 million in direct spending, bolstering the local economy as visitors explored the Highlands.
The recent arrival of the Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambience, accommodating up to 1,400 guests, marked the end of this year’s busy schedule. Passengers disembarking at Invergordon often venture to nearby Inverness and various attractions, significantly benefiting local shops and tour operators. The port has actively promoted local businesses through a series of mini promotional films, highlighting the town’s vibrant culture, including its notable mural trail, which celebrated a significant anniversary this year.
Positive Impact on Local Businesses
According to a spokesperson for the Port of Cromarty Firth, the cruise industry is essential for many small businesses in the area. They noted, “Feedback from cruise lines and their passengers about their visits to Invergordon and the Highlands has been fantastic. Thank you to local residents, businesses, attractions, and the many staff and volunteers who ensure visitors feel welcome and enjoy their time in our beautiful area.”
The current season saw almost 100 ship visits, with plans for an even busier season next year. Already, 107 ships have reserved spots for the 2025 season, indicating continued interest in Invergordon as a cruise destination.
Exploring the Highlands and Beyond
The Ambience recently completed a 16-day round trip as part of the Aurora Isles Discover Norway’s Northern Lights and The Scottish Highlands tour. This voyage included multiple stops in Norway and a visit to Orkney before returning to London, where the journey commenced.
As Invergordon prepares for the next cruise season, local leaders remain optimistic about the economic benefits and the opportunity to showcase the region’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The community’s efforts to enhance visitor experiences will likely play a pivotal role in attracting even more cruise lines in the future.
