New Dental Clinic Set to Replace Butcher’s Shop in Nottingham
A new dental clinic is set to open at Nottingham’s Clifton Triangle retail park, nearly a year after the abrupt closure of a well-regarded butcher’s shop. The Clifton branch of The Butcher’s Shop, part of the Underwood Meat Company, announced its immediate closure in January 2025, citing the difficult decision to cease operations. The owners expressed gratitude to their customers in a statement, acknowledging the support received since the shop’s opening in December 2018.
The butcher’s shop had become a staple in the community, offering a diverse selection of quality meats at competitive prices. Its closure left a notable gap in the retail park, which has been evolving since its development began in July 2017.
Nottingham City Council has recently confirmed that a new tenant will fill the vacant unit. Though the specific business has not been officially disclosed, planning documents indicate that MyDentist, the UK’s largest dental care provider, is poised to take over Unit 4. This move is expected to enhance the services available at the retail park, complementing existing retailers such as B&M and Lidl.
The council’s report on the new arrangement clarifies that the existing lease surrender is “subject to a premium payment,” indicating a structured approach to tenant transitions at the site. The addition of MyDentist marks a significant shift for the Clifton Triangle, which has seen various developments in recent years, including the opening of Esquire Coffee, the most recent retailer to occupy a previously empty unit.
The renovation and repurposing of the Clifton Triangle reflect a broader trend in retail spaces, where adaptability and diversification of services are key to attracting customers. As the retail landscape continues to change, the arrival of MyDentist could signal a new chapter for both the local economy and community engagement at the Clifton Triangle.
As Nottingham City Council continues to facilitate these developments, the impact on local residents and shoppers will be closely monitored, particularly as the new clinic prepares to welcome patients in the coming months.
