Interior Designer Reveals 2025 Christmas Trends and Kmart Finds
Interior designer Zahli has unveiled her festive styling “ins and outs” for Christmas 2025, emphasizing a shift toward a more sustainable and personalized approach to holiday decorating. Known for her ability to create stunning interiors on a budget, Zahli, of By Zahli, provides insights that cater to both aesthetics and affordability, particularly through popular retailer Kmart.
Transforming Spaces with Multi-Use Decor
As the cost of living continues to rise, many individuals are seeking ways to maximize their holiday budgets. Zahli suggests that a botanical Christmas theme is not only flexible but also allows for the use of faux flora and fauna. She recommends incorporating items like Kmart’s Artificial Native Bunch, which can enhance Christmas trees and be repurposed into vases throughout the year. This approach not only saves money but also reduces waste.
The designer has also criticized the use of thin tinsel, which she argues lacks impact. Instead, she encourages combining two pieces of tinsel to create a thicker, more luxurious appearance on Christmas trees. By doing so, decorators can maintain a festive look without overspending.
Embracing New Trends While Avoiding the Old
One of Zahli’s key recommendations is embracing the “Ralph Lauren Christmas” trend, which has gained popularity for its rich, traditional aesthetic. By utilizing Kmart’s Traditional and Natural Flocked Hanging Decorations, individuals can achieve a similar opulent look without the associated high costs. Incorporating deep red, forest green, and muted mint colors can evoke a sense of luxury, especially when paired with plaid ribbons tied in bows.
Gone are the days of relying solely on bland value pack baubles. Zahli urges decorators to mix and match ornaments of varying textures, shapes, and colors to create a unique tree. Her suggested trio includes Kmart’s Candy Gift Garland, Pink Candy Tinsel Baubles, and a 24 Pack of Mini Decorations, which together provide a diverse and vibrant display.
Zahli’s top Kmart must-buys for this holiday season include:
– Light up glass Christmas tree ($12)
– Gingerbread Village Door Mat ($16)
– Christmas Wovy Boxen PJ set ($20)
– Christmas Novelty Scuffs ($10)
– Christmas Tree Serve Board ($16)
– Christmas gift tags ($3)
The designer emphasizes the importance of scale in holiday decorating. Larger baubles or oversized bows can make a significant statement on a Christmas tree.
Additionally, Zahli advises against using multi-coloured lights, suggesting that a singular warm white light can create a more cohesive and sophisticated appearance.
Ultimately, Zahli encourages individuals to create their own rules when decorating for Christmas. Whether inspired by the ocean or travel, personal touches can transform a space and make the holiday celebrations more meaningful. As she puts it, “Forgetting the rules and having fun is always in.”
By integrating these fresh ideas and Kmart’s accessible decor, decorators can elevate their Christmas aesthetic while remaining budget-conscious this festive season.
