Annie Takes the Stage at Eden Court: A Community Production Shines
The beloved musical Annie will come alive at the Eden Court Theatre in Inverness as a new community production runs from October 2 to 5, 2024. Produced by Ness Entertainment, this fresh interpretation invites audiences to experience the charm and resilience of one of the world’s most iconic shows.
Since its Broadway debut in 1977, Annie has captivated millions with its unforgettable score, featuring classics such as “Tomorrow,” “Hard Knock Life,” “Maybe,” and “NYC.” Based on Harold Gray‘s comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the musical has garnered seven Tony Awards, inspired numerous productions in the West End, and led to multiple film adaptations. The Inverness performance promises to bring the streets of 1930s New York to life with more than 60 local performers.
The production reflects the themes of resilience, hope, and community, which resonate strongly in today’s world. Alan Mackintosh and Sally Robertson, producers for Ness Entertainment, expressed their excitement, stating, “After the success of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 2024, we knew we had to bring another iconic family musical to Eden Court. Annie is about resilience, hope and community – themes that feel especially powerful right now.”
Behind the Scenes of Annie
Directed by Claire Fisher, with choreography by Jade McIntyre and musical direction by Ross Brindle, this large-scale production showcases a diverse cast drawn from across the Highlands. Rehearsals have been ongoing since April, with cast members dedicating countless evenings and weekends to ensure a vibrant portrayal of the beloved story.
Set during the Great Depression, Annie follows a young orphan with an unbreakable spirit, who believes that “the sun’ll come out tomorrow.” Her journey takes her from the oppressive orphanage run by the formidable Miss Hannigan to an unexpected home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Throughout her adventure, Annie remains hopeful of being reunited with her biological family.
Audiences can expect a performance filled with dazzling dance numbers, memorable characters, and soaring songs that have solidified Annie‘s status as a cherished musical around the globe.
Tickets for the production are now available through the Eden Court Theatre website at eden-court.co.uk/event/annie or by contacting the box office at 01463 234234. This community-driven event is set to be a joyous celebration of talent and spirit, making it a must-see for musical enthusiasts in Inverness.
