At The Gates Frontman Tomas Lindberg Hospitalized After Health Setback

The frontman of the Swedish metal band At The Gates, Tomas Lindberg, has been hospitalized due to a recent health setback in his ongoing battle against cancer. On August 15, 2025, the band released a statement updating fans about Lindberg’s condition, indicating he is receiving specialized care and is being closely monitored around the clock.
In March 2025, Lindberg revealed he had been diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare cancer affecting the mouth and palate. He underwent significant surgery and radiation therapy after his diagnosis in December 2023. Lindberg described the past year as “very tough,” highlighting the challenges he has faced throughout his treatment journey.
The recent statement from At The Gates outlined the timeline of Lindberg’s health struggles, mentioning that in early 2025, doctors discovered remaining traces of the cancer that were inaccessible by surgery or radiation. In light of this, they suggested that Lindberg might need to undergo chemotherapy to manage his condition.
In the statement, the band expressed their gratitude for the ongoing support from fans, requesting respect for Lindberg and his family’s privacy during this difficult period. They acknowledged the emotional toll the situation has taken while maintaining a hopeful outlook for recovery.
As the band has remained relatively silent regarding updates, they emphasized the importance of transparency about Lindberg’s health. “We know how much the band and the music mean to him,” the statement read, “and Tomas is incredibly proud of the new At The Gates album we’ve been working on.”
Lindberg’s personal message, also shared in March 2025, reflected on his diagnosis and treatment. He explained that after extensive surgery to remove a large portion of the roof of his mouth, he completed two months of radiation therapy. He noted the urgency of recording the album’s vocals, which he managed to complete the day before his surgery.
The upcoming album marks a significant collaboration for Lindberg and bandmate Anders Björler, as it is the first time in a decade they have worked together on a full album’s worth of music. Lindberg described the sound as a return to their roots, blending elements from their previous albums, Slaughter of the Soul and At War with Reality.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his health, Lindberg expressed determination to release the album, stating, “Now when everything about the future is a bit more unsure, it feels good to deliver this album.”
Fans will be eagerly awaiting more information about the upcoming release, as Lindberg and At The Gates navigate this challenging chapter. The band’s commitment to their music and to their fans remains strong, even as Lindberg faces significant health challenges.
