Bimini Bon-Boulash Reflects on Editing Choices in Celebrity SAS

Bimini Bon-Boulash, a prominent drag artist known for their bold performances, has expressed disappointment over editing choices in the reality series *Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins*. The show, which airs on Channel 4, is known for its extreme challenges and rigorous mental and physical tests. Bimini, whose real name is Tommy Hibbits, joined the cast without prior knowledge of the series, drawn in by its reputation as “the hardest show on television.”
Despite facing daunting challenges, such as physical confrontations and high-pressure scenarios, Bimini remained surprisingly composed. In an interview, they reflected on their experience, admitting to questioning their own emotional resilience while watching the show. “Am I okay? Nothing seems to be bothering me that much, as if I need the extremities to focus and be calm,” Bimini noted.
Team Dynamics and Vulnerability
Initially apprehensive about the hyper-masculine environment, which included former Premier League footballer Troy Deeney and professional boxer Conor Benn, Bimini found common ground with their co-stars. They quickly realized the importance of camaraderie, stating, “We had to come together as a team; they were all each other had.”
Despite the team spirit, Bimini was disheartened by the show’s preference for showcasing moments of distress over vulnerability. They highlighted a conversation with fellow contestants, including Lucy Spraggan, where the men acknowledged their struggles with expressing emotions. Bimini expressed disappointment that these crucial discussions were omitted in favor of depicting the contestants at their lowest points. “We deconstructed it in a progressive way that would be really beautiful to see,” they said.
In one challenge, Bimini squared off against *Traitors* winner Harry Clarke, an experience they described as “so out of my comfort zone.” They admitted to feeling unsettled by the physical violence involved, contrasting it with the enthusiasm of their male counterparts.
Resilience and Strength of the LGBTQ+ Community
Bimini’s journey on the show also highlighted the unique resilience found within the LGBTQ+ community. Many viewers have commented on Bimini’s poise throughout the tests. Reflecting on this, they stated, “If you can accept yourself in a world that doesn’t accept you, then you can jump off a cliff.” Their determination was evident, even as they faced physical and emotional challenges.
The show has tested many contestants’ limits, with some unable to continue. Yet, Bimini emerged from the experience with a renewed sense of self-confidence. “It cemented me to my core,” they remarked, asserting their strength in a world that often underestimates the physical capabilities of drag performers.
Bimini has been a performer all their life, often showcasing athleticism through dance. They challenged the perception of drag artists, emphasizing the rigorous demands of their performances. “I don’t know why drag queens are underestimated,” they said, reflecting on their ability to execute complex moves, even while wearing high heels.
Bimini also humorously recounted the discomforts of the filming process, including limited hygiene options, stating, “I only had two showers; it was gross.” Yet, they maintained a light-hearted attitude about the challenges, remarking on the camaraderie formed in difficult moments.
As the season progresses, Bimini hinted at even more intense moments ahead, stating, “There’s a moment coming soon where it definitely started to get to me.”
*Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins* airs on Sundays and Mondays at 21:00 on Channel 4, providing viewers with a glimpse into the physical and emotional trials faced by its contestants. Bimini’s journey serves as a testament to the resilience and strength that can emerge from adversity, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community.
