Charli XCX Cast as Rosa in 100 Nights of Hero: Director’s Insight

Director Julia Jackman has shared her insights into casting global pop star Charli XCX in the film 100 Nights of Hero, marking the singer’s first major acting role. Known for hits like “Boom Clap” and “Vroom Vroom,” XCX will portray Rosa, a mythical figure, in a story that intertwines elements of queer romance and classic folklore.
The film, adapted from the graphic novel by Isabel Greenberg, is inspired by the historic collection One Thousand and One Nights. It explores a complex love triangle involving Manfred, played by Nicholas Galitzine, Hero, portrayed by Emma Corrin, and Cherry, played by Maika Monroe. The official synopsis describes the narrative as focused on a charming houseguest who disrupts the delicate balance within a remote castle, leading to unforeseen chaos.
In a recent conversation with Variety, Jackman elaborated on how XCX came to be involved in the project. She noted that their collaboration began before XCX publicly expressed interest in acting. “It was a very pleasant surprise when someone said to me: I think she might vibe with the film,” Jackman explained.
The two met after XCX’s performance at Glastonbury in 2024, just as her album Brat was gaining popularity. Jackman recalled, “She had brought her iPad and her notes and was very open and keen to not force things.” The director was impressed by XCX’s dry sense of humor and unexpected shyness, which she felt made her a suitable choice for the enchanting role of Rosa.
While 100 Nights of Hero marks XCX’s official film debut, she has since secured roles in various upcoming projects. Notably, she will star in Erupcja alongside Jeremy O. Harris, set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 4, 2024. Additionally, XCX will feature in the action-comedy Sacrifice, sharing the screen with stars such as Anya Taylor-Joy and Salma Hayek.
The anticipation for 100 Nights of Hero continues to build, with its premiere scheduled for the Venice Film Festival on September 5, 2024. The film will also serve as the closing feature at the London Film Festival on October 19, 2024.
As audiences await the film’s release, Jackman’s decision to cast Charli XCX is already generating excitement, suggesting a promising career ahead for the artist in the film industry.
