Claudia Winkleman Supports Alex Kingston Amid Emotional Moment
The atmosphere on Saturday evening’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing shifted dramatically when host Claudia Winkleman offered emotional support to contestant Alex Kingston. The actress became visibly upset during the show, revealing her struggles both in her pre-performance video package and while waiting for the judges’ scores.
Kingston, who partners with professional dancer Johannes Radebe, expressed her feelings of disappointment and concern over not meeting expectations. “It’s been a tough week,” she admitted, her emotions spilling over as she faced the judges’ varied feedback. Winkleman, noticing Kingston’s distress, stepped in to comfort her, reminding the actress of the support she has from her colleagues and the audience.
In a heartfelt moment, Winkleman reassured Kingston, saying, “Alex, you know we love you. Since this has begun, my favourite thing is seeing you on a Friday and asking, ‘How is it and do you love it?’ Yesterday, you said, ‘No, not very much’.” Kingston responded, “Yes. I know. The thing is, I’m numerically dyslexic, so I can’t count.” Winkleman acknowledged the challenge, stating, “And that’s quite difficult,” as Kingston struggled to hold back tears.
As the emotional moment unfolded, Winkleman encouraged the audience to show their support, saying, “No, everyone get in.” She emphasized that not every dance needs to be loved, stating, “You’re not supposed to love every dance.” Kingston reflected on her feelings about the performance, saying, “I should love this dance because it’s drama, but I’m just used to dancing to lyrics.”
Despite her tears, Kingston reassured Winkleman, “It’s fine, it’s fine.” The supportive atmosphere highlighted the camaraderie among contestants and the understanding that the competition brings its own pressures.
“You know what? It’s okay to feel overwhelmed,” Winkleman reminded her, reaffirming the importance of emotional well-being amidst the competition.
Strictly Come Dancing continues to captivate audiences, showcasing not only dance talent but also the personal journeys of its contestants. Viewers can catch up on the latest episodes on BBC iPlayer.
