Fans React Strongly as Bride “Fat-Shames” Groom on Honeymoon
Viewers of the reality show Married At First Sight have expressed outrage after bride Sarah appeared to “fat-shame” her new husband, Dean, during their honeymoon. The incident unfolded in a preview clip from an upcoming episode, where Sarah’s comments about Dean’s size led to significant backlash from fans.
In the clip, Sarah, 31, stated that she had never dated anyone as “big” as Dean, 31, which left him feeling “empty.” Despite Dean’s upbeat demeanor, his attempts to engage Sarah during their honeymoon were met with clear disapproval. Sarah openly criticized his enthusiasm, commenting that his “outburst of song and rapping” was beginning to “grate” on her.
During a dinner date, Dean inquired about Sarah’s past relationships, asking, “Have you been with anyone bigger than me?” Sarah’s blunt response, “No,” accompanied by a shaking head, visibly affected him. Fans quickly took to social media to express their disappointment, with one user highlighting that Dean deserves better treatment regardless of his size.
Criticism of Sarah’s remarks continued to mount, with several viewers accusing her of judging Dean solely based on his appearance. One comment read, “If Dean was covered in tattoos, she still wouldn’t like him because of his weight.” Another viewer noted, “Sarah is definitely judging his weight though because there’s nothing wrong with his appearance.”
The situation escalated further when Sarah’s friends appeared to dismiss Dean upon his arrival at the altar. With bemused expressions, they ignored him, reflecting Sarah’s own lack of enthusiasm. Her friend Caitlin commented, “Looks are very important to Sarah, and he is definitely not Sarah’s type.”
Dean, who had expressed excitement about the marriage, faced disappointment as Sarah admitted to the producers, “No, I don’t fancy Dean. So sorry.” His attempt to impress her by performing a rap at their wedding also fell flat, leading to visible discomfort among Sarah and her family.
In contrast, past couples from Married At First Sight have demonstrated that love can flourish despite initial reservations. For instance, Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling, who gained fame during series six, welcomed their first child after building a meaningful relationship outside the show’s format.
Similarly, Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson, the show’s first same-sex pairing, have maintained a successful partnership, even launching a podcast together. Jenna reflected, “The process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously,” indicating that the show can foster enduring connections despite initial challenges.
As fans continue to scrutinize Sarah’s behavior, many hope for a resolution that allows Dean to be treated with respect, irrespective of his appearance. The ongoing discussion highlights societal attitudes towards body image and the importance of kindness in relationships, emphasizing that everyone deserves to be valued for who they are beyond physical attributes.
