Filming Begins for Vietnamese Comedy Drama ‘Mr. Hero’ Starring Thai Hoa
Filming for the Vietnamese family comedy drama ‘Mr. Hero’ has commenced in Vietnam, marking a collaboration between HK Film, V Pictures from Vietnam, and Fremantle’s Singapore-based Beach House Pictures. The film features Thai Hoa in the lead role and is directed by Vo Thach Thao. Scheduled for distribution by CJ CGV Vietnam in April 2026, the project aims to capture a heartwarming yet thought-provoking narrative.
The story draws inspiration from a real-life incident in 2011 when a man became a national symbol of courage after saving a child who fell from a 12-story window. The script, co-written by Thao and Doan Hai Van, explores the intriguing question of what happens if an act of heroism is fabricated. This angle adds depth to a narrative that promises both humor and reflection.
Thao, recognized for her previous television series that garnered over 350 million viewers during its initial release in Vietnam, brings her expertise to this project. Thai Hoa, a prominent comedic actor, has starred in two of the year’s biggest box office successes, including one that attracted over 2.5 million admissions in Vietnam. He is particularly noted for his breakthrough performance as a female cross-dresser in the 2010 film ‘The Lost Dragon’.
Nguyen Hoang Hai, CEO of V Pictures, expressed confidence in the project, stating, “With a strong ensemble cast, a talented director, and an experienced powerhouse team, ‘Mr. Hero’ has all the ingredients for major box office success. At its heart is a powerful, compelling story that will deeply resonate with audiences.”
This project marks Beach House’s second foray into Vietnamese cinema, according to Conor Zorn, head of scripted content at the Singapore-based production company. Previously, Beach House announced its adaptation of Vu Trong Phung’s 1936 satirical novel, with Phan Gia Nhat Linh as director and a cast led by Vietnamese pop star Mono.
As filming unfolds, anticipation builds for ‘Mr. Hero’, a film that promises to blend comedy with an exploration of heroism, inviting audiences to reflect on courage in everyday life while enjoying a light-hearted narrative.
