George Clarke Addresses Confusion Over Strictly Come Dancing Role
George Clarke, a participant in the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing, has responded to viewers who have confused him with a different Channel 4 personality. As the new season of the popular dancing competition kicks off, fans are grappling with the show’s fresh lineup of celebrities, which includes a mix of sporting icons, soap opera stars, and social media influencers.
The BBC’s latest casting announcement has drawn attention, particularly surrounding the inclusion of Clarke, a 25-year-old content creator known for his presence on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Many fans took to social media to express their bewilderment, mistaking him for the acclaimed architect and presenter of shows such as Remarkable Renovations and Shed of the Year.
On the BBC Strictly Instagram page, one user commented, “Who? Never heard of him,” while another noted, “I don’t know this fella, everyone else so far I know. I am willing to give him a chance. I am hoping I grow to like him.” Others echoed similar sentiments, with one adding, “Haha trust me. I thought it was George Clarke the architect.”
Clarke, originally from Bristol, built his online following through a variety of content, including comedy sketches and lifestyle vlogs. He currently boasts 2.3 million followers on TikTok, alongside 684,000 on Instagram and 614,000 subscribers on YouTube. His popularity led to collaborations with the YouTube group The Sidemen, and he appeared in their Netflix series, Inside, where influencers faced off in competitive challenges for a cash prize.
In an interview with GB News, Clarke acknowledged his awareness of the confusion, stating, “I feel like – look, I was expecting people to sort of give the whole, ‘Who?’ Because I’m from the online world. But there will be people on the show who know who I am and not who other people are. It’s just nice to be asked, isn’t it?” He emphasized that while he appreciates the opportunity, he understands the varying levels of recognition among participants.
As the new season of Strictly Come Dancing prepares to air on 20 September 2023 at 18:40 on BBC One and iPlayer, viewers can anticipate a blend of familiar faces and fresh talent, navigating the dance floor in pursuit of the coveted glitterball trophy. Clarke’s participation marks a notable intersection between traditional entertainment and the digital landscape, reflecting the evolving nature of celebrity in the modern age.
