Jealous Parrot Causes Commotion During Owner’s Romantic Shift

A parrot named Jano made headlines recently after displaying unusual behavior when her owner, Salford Sheriff, introduced a new partner, Amy. The incident unfolded in Towyn, Conwy, where Jano took flight, leading to a dramatic four-hour standoff in a 50-foot tree.
According to Sheriff, the situation escalated when Jano, feeling neglected, flew up into a tree shortly after he began dating. “I’ve got a new girlfriend and Jano isn’t very happy about it as she’s feeling pushed out,” he told the Daily Star. The parrot’s response was less than welcoming, as she repeatedly squawked, “F*** off,” while perched high above the ground.
The unusual rescue mission drew the attention of Deborah Mulvaney, the mayor of Towyn and Kinmel Bay. Upon hearing the commotion from outside, she noticed Jano surrounded by seagulls, which prompted her to act quickly. “I heard a horrendous noise outside… that’s when I saw the parrot up a tree and straightaway I knew who it belonged to because she’s such a big character in Towyn – everybody loves her,” Mulvaney shared.
Sheriff arrived on the scene, but his attempts to lure Jano down with snacks were unsuccessful. He ultimately had to call a tree surgeon from Cut Above to assist in the rescue. Just as the tree surgeon began to climb, Jano descended and flew straight back to her owner.
The community rallied around the incident, with many residents offering help once word spread about Jano’s escape. Sheriff expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “I was so overwhelmed by the way the community rallied around – it was amazing.”
This incident was not the first time Jano has attracted public attention. Last year, Sheriff recounted a harrowing experience where Jano’s frantic squawking alerted him to a fire threatening his touring caravan. The quick response from the parrot potentially saved the mobile home from being destroyed.
Sheriff frequently shares their adventures on TikTok, where they have garnered thousands of views. The pair is popular among locals and often can be found at Knightley’s in Towyn, where visitors are welcome to meet Jano and take photographs.
As for Jano, her antics continue to entertain and engage the local community, reinforcing her status as a beloved companion and local celebrity.
