Jessie J Hospitalized with Infection Following Cancer Surgery

Jessie J, the British singer-songwriter, has been hospitalized due to an infection and fluid accumulation on her lungs, just six weeks after undergoing surgery for breast cancer. The 37-year-old artist shared her health update on August 3, 2025, via her Instagram Stories, providing an intimate glimpse into her ongoing recovery journey.
In her recent post, Jessie described her unexpected return to the hospital after initially feeling symptoms that suggested a blood clot. Fortunately, tests revealed that it was not a blood clot, but rather an infection and some fluid in her lungs. She posted a photo from her hospital bed, showing an IV canula in her hand, and expressed her frustration with the recovery process, stating it has been “the most mentally challenging time.”
Reflecting on her experience, she wrote, “How I spent the last 24 hours. Six weeks post-surgery and I was back in the same ward I was after my surgery. Not expected or planned.” Despite the challenges, Jessie has opted to discharge herself, stating, “I hate being in hospital,” and intends to continue her treatment as an outpatient.
Jessie also opened up about the emotional toll of her health challenges, particularly as a mother to a toddler. “The true hard journey of this whole thing physically was the day I went into surgery. The recovering physically is far from quick or easy,” she acknowledged. The artist noted that adjusting her professional plans this year has been frustrating after her long-awaited return to the music scene.
In her subsequent posts, Jessie emphasized the need to take things slow during her recovery. “A reminder to myself to slow down even though I feel like I’m at a turtle pace right now,” she wrote. The singer candidly shared that her body has signaled the need for rest, saying, “My body and immune system said ‘sit down.’”
This recent health scare follows Jessie’s earlier admission of going into “survival mode” upon her cancer diagnosis. She expressed her feelings of anger and sadness, stating, “I didn’t think beyond the surgery. I was just being strong.” As she continues to process her journey, she is finding strength in accepting the slower pace of recovery and the support from her close circle.
Breast cancer remains a significant health issue worldwide, affecting millions of women each year. In the UK, there are over 55,000 new cases diagnosed annually, and in the US, approximately 266,000 women receive the diagnosis each year. The disease can manifest in various forms, and early detection through routine screening has proven crucial in improving treatment outcomes.
As Jessie J navigates her recovery, her openness about her struggles is resonating with many who face similar challenges. Her journey underscores the importance of support, self-care, and the reality of adjusting to life after a major health crisis.
