Laura Woods Shares Heartbreak Following Miscarriage with Adam Collard

Laura Woods has opened up about the profound grief she experienced alongside fiancé Adam Collard following a miscarriage. The couple faced this heartbreaking loss just months before Adam’s participation in the challenging Channel 4 series, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. Woods, a renowned sports presenter, described the emotional turmoil as “very awful times.”
In an emotional segment on the show, Adam, 29, was visibly moved as he spoke about their loss. During this challenging period, Laura, 38, shared her feelings of loss and confusion. She took to Instagram to post a clip of Adam from the show and expressed her pride in him, stating, “We really had some very awful times last year, but this big, beautiful man has got me through every one of them.”
Laura’s reflections on her grief were poignant. She articulated her “confusing feelings” about the situation, mentioning their son, Leo, born in January 2023. “Sometimes I look at Leo and I think of the baby we’ll never meet, while also knowing we wouldn’t have Leo without it happening,” she wrote. This mix of emotions resonated deeply with her followers, as she sought to provide comfort to others who have faced similar losses.
In her post, Laura recounted a comforting remark made by a nurse during her hospital stay: “This little one wasn’t meant for this world, so this process is its way of keeping you safe.” She emphasized the importance of sharing her experience, saying, “I thought I’d share that in case there’s anyone reading that has been affected by miscarriage too. Lots of love.”
Adam’s emotional vulnerability continued to unfold on the show as he revealed his struggle with depression following the miscarriage. He described how the couple had been through a dark time, expressing that the loss hit them “like a tonne of bricks.” He added, “We just really, really went to a bit of a bad place.”
During a particularly emotional moment on the show, Adam was tasked with reading a letter to his loved ones, where he paid tribute to Laura. As he shared his thoughts, he stated, “The last few months have been really tough, but nowhere near as tough as you.” As tears streamed down his face, he opened up about their recent loss, saying, “We lost a baby recently.”
The couple’s announcement of their engagement in September 2022 followed a whirlwind romance that began in October 2023. Despite the challenges they faced, including Adam’s admission of feeling “bad karma” from his past dating experiences, they have found joy in their new family. Laura and Adam welcomed their son Leo earlier this year, providing a glimmer of hope amidst their heartbreak.
According to the charity Tommy’s, miscarriages are more common than often acknowledged, with an estimated 250,000 occurring annually in the UK alone. The NHS emphasizes that while most miscarriages cannot be prevented, certain lifestyle choices can reduce risks.
As Laura and Adam navigate their grief while celebrating their new family, their candidness serves as a reminder of the complexities of loss and love. Their story resonates with many, offering a sense of solidarity to those who have faced similar experiences.
