PRS and John Mayer Launch Vibrant New Colors for SE Silver Sky

PRS Guitars and renowned guitarist John Mayer have unveiled four new color options for the popular PRS SE Silver Sky, enhancing the instrument’s appeal to guitar enthusiasts. This announcement comes during PRS’s 40th anniversary celebrations, where the Maryland-based company has introduced new models each month.
The SE Silver Sky, an affordable version of Mayer’s signature guitar, has achieved remarkable sales since its launch in 2022. It has repeatedly topped Reverb’s best-selling guitar list, although it has recently been surpassed by the Paul Reed Smith NF 53 model. The new colorways aim to capture attention and diversify the existing lineup, which previously included a left-handed model and a Faded Black Tee Satin color.
New Color Options Reflect American Fashion
The four new finishes—Derby Red, Trad Blue, Laurel Green, and Dandy Lion (a vivid yellow)—draw inspiration from traditional American fashion. Mayer stated, “These are time-tested hues that have been popular through decades, and I’m excited to share them with the world as the latest SE colorways.”
These colors are designed to resonate with a wide audience, appealing to both vintage enthusiasts and modern players alike. The aesthetic changes make the SE Silver Sky resemble classic Stratocasters more than ever.
The specifications of the SE Silver Sky remain consistent. It features a poplar body, a bolt-on maple neck, and a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, complete with signature bird inlays. The guitar is equipped with three 635JM “S” single-coil pickups, maintaining a 25.5-inch scale length, an 8.5-inch fretboard radius, a two-point steel tremolo, and vintage-style tuners.
Maple Fingerboards Now Available
In addition to the vibrant new colors, PRS is introducing models with maple fingerboards, expanding options for players who prefer this material. Previously exclusive colorways such as Moon White, Stone Blue, Summit Purple, and Nylon Blue will now be offered with maple fingerboards.
The new PRS Silver Sky models are available for purchase at $849 each, providing an accessible option for players seeking quality performance without breaking the bank. For more details, interested customers can visit the official PRS Guitars website.
This launch is part of a broader lineup of releases for PRS’s anniversary year, which also includes a unique signature guitar for Herman Li and the highly praised SE NF 53, noted as one of the best sub-$1,000 guitars of 2025.
In an interview, Paul Reed Smith discussed the brand’s strategy, indicating that their focus is not on displacing industry giants such as Fender or Gibson, but rather on offering innovative and appealing options for guitarists at various price points.
As PRS continues to celebrate its legacy, the introduction of these new finishes for the SE Silver Sky reinforces its commitment to both quality craftsmanship and the evolving preferences of musicians worldwide.
