As temperatures rise across the UK, shoppers are turning to hydrating foods to stay cool. Tesco has reported a notable 10 percent increase in sales of fruits like berries, melons, and grapes, as consumers seek refreshing snacks during the heat wave. In addition to these fruits, some less expected foods are proving effective in combatting the summer heat.
Spicy Surprises and Refreshing Brews
Among the surprising recommendations is the consumption of spicy dishes, such as a hot vindaloo curry. These meals often include ingredients like coconut milk, which support electrolyte balance, while spices such as turmeric and ginger enhance circulation, helping to cool the body. Similarly, coriander can improve heat tolerance, and chili peppers activate the body’s cooling mechanisms.
An unexpected but effective option is a hot cup of tea. Research from the University of Cambridge indicates that a beverage warmer than body temperature stimulates heat receptors on the tongue, prompting the body to sweat and cool down.
