The Government of India has approved the addition of 200 MBBS seats across two newly established medical colleges in Odisha. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday, indicating that the new seats will be available for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.

Phulbani Government Medical College in Kandhamal district and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College in Talcher, Angul district, will each receive 100 MBBS seats. This significant expansion aims to enhance medical education and healthcare services in the region.

The approval was granted by the National Medical Commission, which oversees medical education standards in India. In a post on X, Chief Minister Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri J.P. Nadda for their support in establishing these institutions. He stated, “On behalf of the people of Odisha, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and Hon’ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri @JPNadda ji, for approving the establishment of Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College, Talcher with 100 MBBS seats from the academic year 2025-26.”

The introduction of these new medical seats is expected to create additional opportunities for aspiring medical students in Odisha and improve access to quality healthcare in Talcher and surrounding areas. Chief Minister Majhi noted that since the new government took office, there has been a concerted effort to enhance health services and medical education throughout the state.

With the establishment of these two colleges, Odisha is taking significant steps toward addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals in the region. The initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing commitment to bolster healthcare infrastructure and ensure better health outcomes for its citizens.

As the state prepares for the new academic year, local communities are optimistic that these developments will lead to a more robust medical workforce capable of meeting the healthcare needs of the population.
