Lidl Issues Urgent Recall of Vegan Protein Bars Over Allergy Risk
Lidl has announced an urgent recall of its Healthy Fit Vegan Protein Bar due to potential health risks. The product has been removed from shelves across Northern Ireland after it was discovered that it may contain canola rapeseed protein isolate, an undeclared allergen that poses a serious risk to individuals allergic to mustard.
The affected batches include those with best before dates of February 28, 2026, March 31, 2026, April 30, 2026, and July 31, 2026. Customers who have purchased these protein bars are strongly advised to refrain from consuming them, as the unlabelled ingredient could lead to severe allergic reactions, including rashes, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
In an official statement, Lidl emphasized the importance of consumer safety: “Healthy Fit is recalling the above Vegan Protein Bar due to the presence of canola rapeseed protein isolate. This ingredient can cause an allergic reaction to consumers who are allergic to mustard and products thereof. If you have purchased the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to mustard, we advise you do not consume it. Instead, please return the product to a Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.”
Lidl has expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this labelling oversight. Although allergies to mustard are relatively rare, they represent the most common type of spice allergy and can affect both children and adults. Symptoms can vary in severity, and for some, a mustard allergy may lead to anaphylaxis, a severe, potentially life-threatening reaction that necessitates immediate medical attention, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Consumers are encouraged to check their purchases and act promptly to ensure their safety. Returning the product to any Lidl location will ensure a full refund, reflecting the retailer’s commitment to customer care.
