Catalina Dima, known as Cat, has achieved remarkable recognition in the culinary world after her **Cinnamon Muffin Roll** was awarded Scotland’s Bakery Product of the Year at the **2025 Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards**. Cat, who moved to Scotland from Romania nine years ago, began her journey as a kitchen porter at The Real Food Cafe in Tyndrum.

Despite starting with limited English skills, Cat’s determination led her to teach herself baking. She recounted, “My first proper experience of baking was after the birth of my son. I wanted to do something at home, so I started baking bread and failed miserably, but I kept going.” This perseverance drove her to read extensively about baking, often staying up late to perfect her recipes.

Sweet Success at the Awards

The recognition Cat received for her **Cinnamon Muffin Roll** reflects both her hard work and the quality of the product. This delightful treat, beloved by customers, often sells out within hours at the café. Cat attributes the success of her muffin rolls to the love and effort she pours into each batch. “Our cinnamon muffin rolls are special because of the amount of time and love that goes into them. Our secret? They’re baked fresh from scratch every day, using top quality ingredients, which include butter, cinnamon, brown sugar, and the gamechanger… a melted apricot jam glaze.”

Sarah Heward, founder and co-owner of The Real Food Cafe, expressed her pride. “This award is a huge moment for us. The cinnamon muffin rolls are more than just a baked product – they represent creativity, resilience, and a love for great ingredients and food. I’m so proud of Cat, whose journey and passion have made these buns what they are.”

Previous Achievements and Industry Impact

This award is not the first accolade Cat has received for her baking. Last year, she claimed third prize for her **Haggis Sausage Roll** at The Great Sausage Roll-Off. Additionally, she has earned several one and two-star **Great Taste Awards** for her **Clootie Dumpling Pudding**, **Carrot Cake**, and **Gluten Free Fudge Cake**.

The **Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Awards**, now in their 25th year, celebrate the finest products, individuals, and businesses in Scotland’s culinary landscape. Iain Baxter, Chief Executive of Scotland Food & Drink, commented, “The Excellence Awards shine a spotlight on the outstanding producers whose passion, innovation, and hard work continue to drive Scotland’s food and drink industry forward. The quality of this year’s entries has been exceptional, showcasing the creativity and craftsmanship that set new standards for our sector.”

Cat’s journey from kitchen porter to award-winning baker serves as an inspiring testament to determination and the pursuit of excellence in the culinary arts. As she continues to create delicious treats at The Real Food Cafe, her story highlights the vibrant food community in Scotland and the incredible talent it nurtures.
