Leicester Store to Restock Labubu Toys After High Demand

Popular collectible plush toys, Labubu, are set to return to the shelves of Forbidden Planet in Leicester following significant demand from fans. The surge in interest around these toys has left some retailers struggling to keep them in stock. Originally created in 2015 by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, Labubu toys feature stylised characters with exaggerated facial expressions and animal-like characteristics.
Rising Popularity and Pricing
Labubu has gained a dedicated fan base, particularly at Forbidden Planet, a prominent retailer known for its unique collectibles. The toys are part of “The Monsters” series, with prices ranging from £14 for some figures to as high as £200 for limited editions on the official Pop Mart website. For example, the “Angel In Clouds Vinyl Face Doll” is currently listed at £215 online.
In a statement to LeicestershireLive, James, the store manager, mentioned, “We will be getting new stock very soon. The store has been quite busy with Labubu fans, but it’s generally been quite cordial in the grand scheme of things. It’s been very busy when they are available.”
Influence of Social Media and Celebrities
The popularity of Labubu toys notably increased in early to mid-2024, catalysed by a social media post from Lisa, a member of the K-pop group Blackpink, who showcased her own Labubu doll collection. This endorsement sparked a trend that propelled the toys into mainstream visibility.
Social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram have further amplified the Labubu craze, with fans showcasing their collections and engaging with the community through various posts. The combination of celebrity influence and social media engagement has significantly contributed to the demand for Labubu toys.
For those eager to add a Labubu doll to their collection, the restock at Forbidden Planet is eagerly anticipated. Fans are encouraged to keep an eye on the store’s updates as new shipments are expected to arrive shortly.
