Meghan Markle has reportedly been deeply affected by a critical assessment from renowned author and journalist Tina Brown. Known for her past connections to the British royal family, Brown’s comments struck a personal chord with the Duchess of Sussex, leaving her feeling “inconsolable,” according to royal commentator Neil Sean.

During an episode of The Ankler podcast in October 2022, Brown, who has authored several notable works including The Palace Papers, expressed her opinion on Markle’s judgment. She stated, “The trouble with Meghan is that she has the worst judgment of anyone in the entire world. She’s flawless about getting it all wrong.” Such remarks reportedly left Markle in tears, as she had long admired Brown and her writings, particularly due to Brown’s connection to the late Princess Diana.

Brown gained notoriety as the former editor of Vanity Fair and Tatler. Her insights into the royal family’s dynamics offer a unique perspective, especially given her friendship with Diana, whom she had lunch with shortly before the tragic loss in 1997. The Duchess of Sussex is said to have read Brown’s biography, The Diana Chronicles, in an effort to better understand her husband, Prince Harry, and his feelings about his mother.

Tina Brown’s Insights on Prince Harry

In addition to her critique of Markle, Brown shared her thoughts on Prince Harry’s relationship with the royal family. She described him as “very impetuous” and suggested that those within the Palace recognized his dissatisfaction with royal life. Brown claimed, “He was so fragile, so combustible, he was so unhappy, frankly, in the constraints of the royal family.”

She elaborated on Harry’s admiration for Markle, saying that he was “terribly impressed by Meghan” and believed she could help him navigate the complexities of royal life. Brown added, “He just sort of blindly followed her like a child, really.” Despite her criticisms, she acknowledged Harry’s capabilities, stating, “The thing about Harry is he’s very good at being Prince Harry. And that’s the tragedy of all of this; he is the most talented member of the royal family, without doubt, in terms of being a prince.”

Brown’s Previous Comments on the Couple

This is not the first time Brown has commented on the Sussexes. In 2022, she expressed skepticism regarding whether Diana would have supported Harry and Meghan’s decision to step back from royal duties. According to Brown, “Diana would have been very, very protective of Harry and I believe very anxious about this direction they [he and Meghan] have taken.”

Additionally, she speculated that Diana may not have viewed Markle favorably. “I think she would have felt Meghan was steering Harry in a direction that was not good. I don’t think Diana would have been the great fan of Meghan that Meghan herself might perhaps imagine,” Brown noted in an interview with the Daily Beast.

The ongoing discourse surrounding Meghan Markle and her relationship with the royal family continues to capture public interest, as critics and supporters alike weigh in on her journey and choices. Brown’s recent critique has reignited discussions about the complexities of royal life and the expectations placed on those who marry into the family.
