Businessman and Officials Deny Charges of Criminal Organization
Three prominent figures, including businessman Aleksandar Mijajlović and former officials from Montenegro’s security services, have denied allegations of forming a criminal organization and disclosing confidential information. The accusations were brought forth during an interrogation by the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) on the morning of March 14, 2024.
During the interrogation, Andrijana Nastić, the Deputy State Prosecutor, along with former Podgorica security chief Milovan Pavićević and ex-head of the counterintelligence agency Drago Spičićanović, faced serious charges. The SDT believes they are involved in illicit activities that undermine public safety and state integrity. Specifically, Pavićević is also suspected of abuse of office.
The questioning, which concluded shortly before 04:00, was conducted by three special prosecutors. According to ETV Portal, the accused firmly rejected all charges during the proceedings. Their legal representatives have committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the case, limiting their ability to provide further details.
Following the interrogation, authorities set a detention period of up to 72 hours for the accused. They will be presented before an investigative judge within this timeframe. Despite the gravity of the situation, the SDT has not issued any statements to the media regarding this operation, nor have they responded to multiple inquiries.
The implications of these charges could be significant, not only for the individuals involved but also for the broader political and business landscape in Montenegro. As the investigation unfolds, observers will be closely monitoring the actions of the SDT and any subsequent legal proceedings.
