Cherished Mother and Community Friend Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Bates Passes Away at 89

The family of Elizabeth “Betty” Bates has announced her passing at the age of 89. She died peacefully at her home in Cheshire, leaving behind a legacy of love and friendship. Known for her vibrant spirit, Betty was a devoted mother, an exceptional gardener, and a passionate advocate for animals.
Born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Betty spent her early years on a farm. She had a diverse career that included modeling and working in the interior design department at Sears. Ultimately, she found her home in the Berkshires, where she lived for many years. Most recently, she was employed at Sherwin Williams and Liquors Inc..
Betty had a remarkable ability to connect with others, and her zest for life was evident in her many passions. She enjoyed vacations in Maine, embraced nature, and cherished her family. Her talents extended to art and literature, reflecting her keen appreciation for beauty and creativity.
She is survived by her two sons, Mark Peetros and his wife Nancy of Lee, and Todd Peetros and his wife Cathy of Agawam. Betty also leaves behind several grandchildren: Christopher Peetros of Lee, Sean Peetros and partner Natasha Irvin of Pittsfield, Michael Peetros and wife Annie of Agawam, Nicole Peetros and partner Jose Lemus of Elizaville, New York, and Samantha McCormick and husband Brendan of Glastonbury, Connecticut. She is also remembered by her five great-grandchildren and her daughter-in-law Karen Nadolski of Palmer, with whom she maintained a close relationship.
Betty’s affinity for animals was evident in her love for her cats, Bitsy and Wilson. She was predeceased by her parents, Sara Conner and Lloyd Conner, her brother Lloyd Conner, her son Ted Peetros, and her grandson Scott Peetros.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no formal services. The family plans to hold a private celebration of her life at a later date on the Ashuwillticook Trail, a location of great significance to Betty where she enjoyed walking her beloved dogs.
Betty Bates will be remembered for her warmth, creativity, and the profound impact she had on her family and community. Her spirit will continue to resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
