Investigation Launched After Prison Officer Attends Migrant Protest

A Scottish prison officer is under investigation following his appearance at a protest outside a hotel housing migrants. George Telford, who works at Polmont Prison near Falkirk, was photographed alongside a banner displaying a knife and skull with the phrase, “Kill ’em all, let god sort ’em out.” The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the officer’s professional conduct.
Approximately 1,000 demonstrators gathered at the Cladhan Hotel on Saturday, where tensions escalated between opposing groups. Telford’s involvement prompted immediate scrutiny from his superiors, who reportedly met with him after images of his participation circulated online.
Colleagues at Polmont Prison expressed their shock over Telford’s actions. An insider stated, “No one can believe how stupid he has been. He was pulled in by bosses when they became aware of it. Everyone is talking about it, and most people are shocked by it.” The source emphasized the importance of maintaining impartiality, especially for public servants who may interact with migrants in their professional capacity.
In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the Scottish Prison Service affirmed their commitment to high standards of conduct. They stated, “We expect the highest standards of conduct from all our staff and have procedures in place to respond where they fall below this. It would be inappropriate to comment further on this matter at this time.”
The protest itself was characterized by clashes between pro-migrant activists and those opposing immigration policies. Groups such as Save Our Future & Our Kids’ Futures and Stand Up to Racism Scotland were present, with the former advocating against what they termed “uncontrolled illegal immigration.” Organizers asserted their focus on safety and justice for the local community in Falkirk.
Local authorities intervened to maintain order, resulting in the closure of several roads around the protest site. The event highlighted the ongoing tensions surrounding immigration issues in the region and the divergent views held by community members.
While Telford’s future within the Scottish Prison Service remains uncertain, the incident has sparked a broader conversation about the responsibilities of public servants and the potential implications of their personal beliefs on their professional roles.
