The Welsh Ambulance Service is set to convene its bi-monthly Trust Board meeting on September 25, 2025, providing the public with an opportunity to engage in discussions concerning significant changes in emergency response protocols. The meeting will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams, beginning at 09:30.

During this session, Board members will outline upcoming revisions to the triage process for 999 emergency calls, which are expected to be implemented during the winter months. The introduction of two new categories—‘orange: time sensitive’ and ‘yellow: assess and respond’—will replace the current ‘Amber’ category. These changes aim to enhance the quality of care for patients experiencing critical conditions, such as strokes and heart attacks.

In addition to the triage updates, the meeting will feature a personal account from a resident of Rhondda Cynon Taf. Taylor will share her experience in seeking assistance through the GP out-of-hours service and 999 for her grandmother. Such testimonies are expected to provide valuable insights into the challenges faced by individuals when accessing emergency medical services.

Rachel Marsh, who has served as Interim Chief Executive, will discuss her tenure prior to the arrival of incoming Chief Executive Emma Wood in October. This transition marks an important milestone for the organization as it continues to adapt its leadership to meet evolving healthcare demands.

Public engagement is a key focus of these meetings, as highlighted by Ceri Jackson, Non-Executive Director and Vice Chair of the Welsh Ambulance Service. She stated, “Board meetings play a vital role in ensuring transparency and openness in everything we do. These meetings are a valuable opportunity to stay informed of the progress we’re making, the challenges we face as we continue to develop and improve ambulance services for the people of Wales, whilst offering a platform for the public to engage directly by putting questions to our decision-makers. We invite anyone with an interest in our work to join us virtually.”

Members of the public are encouraged to participate by submitting questions in advance. Questions can be sent to [email protected] until September 24, 2025. A detailed agenda will be made available on the Trust’s official website in the days leading up to the meeting.

For those wishing to join the meeting, the link will become active ten minutes prior to the start time. Participants are advised to log in early to ensure a smooth connection.

This initiative underscores the Welsh Ambulance Service’s commitment to transparency and community involvement, highlighting the importance of public feedback in shaping the future of emergency medical services in Wales.
