Ceredigion Primary Schools Compete in Exciting Cook-Off Final
Students from three primary schools in Ceredigion are gearing up for an exciting cook-off final set for October 9, 2023. The event will showcase the culinary skills of Year 5 students as they vie for the title of Junior Chefs of the Year. Competing schools include Ysgol Dyffryn Cledlyn in Llanybydder, Ysgol Gymunedol Y Dderi in Llangybi, and Ysgol Gymunedol Gatholig Padarn Sant in Aberystwyth.
The cook-off will feature a live chef-off where each team will prepare a three-course meal under the guidance of expert mentors. Participants will be evaluated on various criteria, including creativity, nutritional value, sustainability, and seasonality, alongside their ability to execute the dishes themselves.
Judging Panel and Prizes
The judging panel will include renowned former Michelin-star chef Douglas Balish, food consultant Hazel Thomas, and Gyles Morris, director of Naturesbase Education. Their expertise will ensure a thorough assessment of each team’s culinary creations.
The winning team will receive a unique prize: a full-day immersive outdoor cooking and foraging experience at Naturesbase in Cilcennin. This opportunity will not only enhance their cooking skills but also deepen their understanding of food sourcing and sustainability.
This annual event aims to inspire young chefs and promote healthy eating habits among school children. It fosters teamwork and creativity in the kitchen, providing a platform for students to showcase their talents. As the competition draws near, anticipation builds for what promises to be an engaging and educational culinary showdown.
