Former Apple Employee Questions Value of New iPhone Air

Apple launched its new iPhone 17 lineup on September 19, 2023, presenting a range of updated features and models. Among these is the iPhone Air, which Apple promotes as its “slimmest phone” to date. However, a former Apple employee has raised significant doubts about the value of this device, suggesting that consumers may want to reconsider their purchasing decisions.

Tyler Morgan, who previously worked at Apple and now shares technology insights on social media, claims there is only one reason to buy the iPhone Air. In a recent TikTok video, he asserted that the device does not offer compelling advantages over the standard iPhone 17. Morgan stated, “I am one of many people that wonder what is the point of the iPhone Air? It’s literally just the 17 with one less camera, a Pro chip, because they have to have a reason to charge you £999.”

He criticized the iPhone Air for its “worse battery” and limited features, such as its inability to support USB 3. He pointed out that the iPhone Air offers only 20 watts of wireless charging compared to 25 watts for the base model. Morgan’s remarks highlight his belief that the iPhone Air caters primarily to those wishing to showcase a new device rather than providing substantial value.

In his recommendation, Morgan suggested that anyone willing to spend £999 should consider the iPhone 17 Pro Max instead. This model, which costs £200 more, comes with a larger 6.9-inch display, a significantly bigger battery, and additional camera capabilities. The iPhone 17 Pro Max supports up to 37 hours of video playback, while the iPhone Air provides 27 hours, according to Apple’s official specifications.

Apple’s website emphasizes the iPhone Air’s thin and light design, asserting it to be more durable than previous iterations. However, the Pro Max model features two additional cameras, including an Ultra Wide 48MP Fusion Telephoto camera, which enhances photo quality and storage options. The iPhone 17 Pro Max can hold up to 2TB of data, while the Air offers up to 1TB.

Despite the criticisms, the iPhone Air maintains a stylish appearance that may appeal to many users. The new lineup’s aluminium design and enhanced camera capabilities have sparked discussions among Apple enthusiasts. As the complete iPhone range becomes available for purchase, consumers will need to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each model carefully.

In a competitive market, the choices available to consumers are vast, and the decision ultimately rests on individual preferences and priorities.
