Jermain Defoe Attempts Rangers Return While Mentoring Mikey Moore

Jermain Defoe has disclosed that he sought to rejoin the coaching staff at Rangers during the summer transfer window, though his efforts were ultimately unsuccessful. Despite this setback, Defoe played a significant role in encouraging young striker Mikey Moore to join the club, marking a new chapter in Moore’s career after making his debut in the Old Firm derby.
Defoe, a celebrated former player at Rangers, expressed his desire to return to the club in an interview with The Scotsman. “I tried to go back in the summer,” he stated. “I’ve done all my coaching badges, and I’d love to be in the club in some capacity. I understand what it’s like; I’ve won a league title there. It’s just one, but I get it.”
He continued in a separate conversation with Daily Record, highlighting his mentorship of Moore. “Obviously, young Mikey Moore has joined the team for the season. I coached him for two years at Tottenham and spoke to him ahead of the move. He wanted to pick my brains about the club, and I said it would be an unbelievable opportunity. Rangers is more than a football club; it’s an amazing place to play, especially when things are going well.”
Rangers Squad Updates and Challenges
In addition to Defoe’s aspirations, Rangers faces some challenges regarding team selection. Midfielder Nico Raskin is set to miss another match as the team prepares to face Hearts. Reports indicate that Raskin returned to training this week but was not guaranteed a place in the matchday squad for the upcoming fixture at Ibrox.
Sources suggest that Raskin held a meeting with manager Martin to discuss recent issues and has accepted responsibility for his actions. He is now working to regain the trust of both his manager and teammates. However, STV reports that he has yet to convince Martin of his readiness to compete again, leaving his participation in the match uncertain.
As the team gears up for this important clash, Rangers supporters are vocal about their frustrations, with some displaying banners calling for Martin’s departure prior to the game against Derek McInnes‘ side. The situation adds further pressure on the club as they seek to solidify their position in league standings and maintain a competitive edge.
With Defoe’s enthusiasm for contributing to the club and the ongoing developments regarding Raskin, Rangers is navigating a critical period in their season. The club’s ability to harness its talent and resolve internal issues will be essential as they strive for success on and off the pitch.
