Sinner Dominates Musetti to Reach US Open Semi-Finals

World No 1 Jannik Sinner advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open after a commanding performance against fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti on Wednesday. Sinner, the defending champion, triumphed with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, which marked his fifth consecutive Grand Slam semi-final appearance. This victory also extended his hardcourt winning streak to an impressive 26 matches, setting the stage for a showdown against Felix Auger-Aliassime on Friday.
Sinner’s dominance over Musetti was evident throughout the match, as he quickly took control of the court. Reflecting on their encounter, Sinner stated, “We know each other very well. We are from the same country… Of course, we have to take the friendship away for the match.” He emphasized his satisfaction with his performance, noting, “From my point of view, it was a great performance, very solid.”
Auger-Aliassime Fights Back to Secure Semi-Final Spot
In the other semi-final match, Felix Auger-Aliassime showcased resilience by overcoming Alex De Minaur after a grueling four-hour battle. The 25th seed managed to secure a 4-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5, 7-6 (4) victory, marking his second semi-final appearance at the US Open. Auger-Aliassime delivered a powerful performance, registering 22 aces and 51 winners during the match.
Despite his previous struggles with injuries and inconsistent performances, Auger-Aliassime expressed his excitement at reaching this stage once again. “It feels amazing… The biggest challenges are yet to come but that’s what I live for, that’s what I train for,” he remarked.
De Minaur, who was aiming to reach the semi-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time, expressed disappointment with his performance. He acknowledged that he fell short of the level required to seize the opportunity, stating, “Right now I’m looking at this like a wasted opportunity. It’s tough.”
Sinner and Auger-Aliassime have faced each other multiple times, with Sinner recently defeating Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati, where he dropped only two games in a dominant quarter-final match. The upcoming semi-final promises to be an exciting encounter, as both players are at the top of their game.
The US Open continues to capture the attention of tennis fans worldwide, with live coverage available on various platforms, including Sky Sports and streaming services. As the tournament progresses, the anticipation builds for the highly awaited clash between Sinner and Auger-Aliassime.
