Wissa Demands Transfer from Brentford Before Deadline

Yoane Wissa has publicly urged Brentford FC to honour their previous commitments regarding his potential transfer. With the transfer deadline looming on August 28, 2023, the forward expressed his frustration over the club’s change in stance, which he claims contradicts earlier agreements.
The 28-year-old player made his comments in a recent social media post, stating that Brentford had initially indicated they would not obstruct his departure if a suitable offer was made. This follows a rejected bid of £35 million ($47.26 million) from Newcastle United earlier this month.
Wissa’s Frustration with Brentford’s Management
In his statement, Wissa recalled discussions he held this summer with senior management, including key directors and the new head coach, Keith Andrews. “I made clear my intention to explore a new challenge,” he stated. He emphasized that it was confirmed both verbally and in writing that he could leave if a reasonable offer was received.
As the transfer window approaches its end, Wissa noted that Brentford’s management has “significantly changed its position,” leaving him in a “difficult and frustrating position.” He added, “The commitment that I could leave this summer has not been fulfilled.” This situation has prompted Wissa to insist that the club respects their earlier agreement.
Impact on Wissa’s Career and Club Dynamics
Wissa has yet to make an appearance this season, with Andrews explaining that he wants players who are “absolutely committed.” Reports indicate that Wissa returned home early from the club’s training camp in July after expressing his desire to join Newcastle. He has not participated in training with the squad this season, which has raised questions about his future at Brentford.
In his appeal, Wissa stated, “Being made to stay beyond this summer will only tarnish four wonderful years at this incredible club.” He is now urging Brentford’s owners and directors to keep their word and allow him to leave before the transfer window closes.
The situation remains fluid as Newcastle continues to explore options in the transfer market. The outcome of Wissa’s request could significantly affect both his career and Brentford’s squad dynamics as they navigate the ongoing transfer challenges.
As of now, Brentford FC has not publicly commented on Wissa’s statements. The next few days could prove crucial for both the player and the club as they approach the deadline.
