A man was arrested in Liverpool city centre on the evening of November 5, 2023, after reports surfaced of a person threatening others with what appeared to be a firearm. Officers from Merseyside Police quickly descended on Upper Parliament Street, closing off the area near the African Caribbean Centre shortly after 20:45 local time.

Witnesses reported a chaotic scene as police blocked traffic on this busy road, affecting public transport and causing significant delays. Buses were halted amidst a police cordon, prompting onlookers to gather and observe the unfolding situation.

One resident recounted witnessing a group of youths when an individual emerged from a nearby property, allegedly brandishing a weapon. “There was a gang of kids and a man came out of a house and threatened them with something that looked like a gun. I think he thought they were messing around with fireworks,” the resident told the ECHO, highlighting the tension of the moment.

Another nearby resident described hearing a commotion before police arrived. “I was just in my flat and then I heard all these sirens. I looked out the window and there were around ten police cars. They blocked off the road for around ten minutes and it all died down then. I just came out to see what had happened,” she said.

According to a spokesperson for Merseyside Police, the force received a call shortly after 20:45 regarding threats made by a male towards occupants of a property on Upper Parliament Street. Officers responded swiftly to the scene, and an individual was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

As of now, no weapon has been recovered, and investigations are ongoing. The spokesperson confirmed that the road, which was temporarily closed, has since been reopened to traffic.
