Berane Football Team Tops League Despite Coaching Turmoil
Footballers from Berane have made headlines by securing the top position in the Second League of Montenegro, remaining unbeaten after nine matches. The team has conceded only two goals during this impressive run. However, internal challenges are overshadowing their success, as head coach Boban Aković, along with his assistants Marko Lalević and Zoran Aković, as well as sports director Admir Adrović, have all resigned.
Aković’s resignation came as a surprise, given the team’s strong performance. He expressed disappointment over his departure, stating, “After three months, I leave my club due to disagreements with the management. It is with a heavy heart, as we achieved excellent results in a short time, primarily with players from Berane.” According to Aković, the team has set a remarkable record, being the only one in the league without a loss and having conceded just two goals in nine matches.
In his farewell remarks, Aković acknowledged the support from players and fans. “I had incredible respect from the team, which grew alongside me during my time as a player and sports director. We managed to bring back the crowd to the stadium, and the atmosphere created by the ‘Strit Bojsi’ supporters was remarkable,” he noted. He thanked the citizens of Berane for their strong backing and expressed his regret at having to leave.
Echoing Aković’s sentiments, Adrović commented on the challenges faced during their tenure. “We wrote a beautiful story, but we encountered misunderstandings. Unfulfilled promises and a lack of real support left me with no choice but to resign. If a coach is achieving such good results yet has to leave, it constrains the sports director,” he explained.
The resignations come at a critical time for Berane Football Club, which is enjoying a successful season. As the team prepares for the next phase of the league, the departures raise questions about the future direction of the club. Aković remains hopeful for the team’s success, stating, “I wish the club all the best and hope it reaches its rightful place in the top league soon.”
The situation reflects deeper issues within the club’s management that could impact their ongoing campaign. With the departure of key figures in the coaching staff, supporters will be watching closely to see how the club navigates this turbulent period while maintaining their position at the top of the league.
