Chef Fined £640 for Possessing Knives After Peeling Potatoes

A chef from London was fined £640 for possessing knives in a public place after being arrested outside a pub in Inverness. The incident occurred when staff at the Caledonian contacted the police regarding a vehicle parked outside their establishment. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals inside the car, one of whom was wanted on an arrest warrant.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the arrested individual, identified as Tadeas Pres, aged 31, was carrying a knife in his back pocket and another in the vehicle. Pres, who hails from Prince of Wales Road in the London borough of Sutton, did not attend the court proceedings but pleaded guilty to the offense of possessing bladed articles without lawful authority on May 4, 2022.
During the court session, Pres’s defense attorney, David Patterson, explained the circumstances surrounding the knives. He stated that Pres, who works as a chef, had been peeling potatoes prior to entering his vehicle and simply forgot the knives were with him.
Sheriff Gary Aitken presided over the case and imposed the fine, in addition to ordering the forfeiture of the knives. The court’s decision highlights the legal repercussions of possessing sharp objects in public spaces, emphasizing the importance of awareness regarding such items.
The incident serves as a reminder for individuals to remain vigilant about carrying potentially dangerous items, even in everyday situations.
