WWE star Drew McIntyre is set to return to his native Scotland to film the highly anticipated remake of the classic 1986 film Highlander. The 40-year-old wrestler, who has achieved fame in the United States, will portray the brother of the main character, Connor MacLeod, played by Henry Cavill.

Originally from Ayr, Scotland, McIntyre has enjoyed a successful wrestling career since debuting with WWE in 2007. He became a two-time champion and shifted his focus to acting, making his film debut in the 2024 thriller The Killer’s Game. Despite living in the U.S. and becoming a citizen in 2023, McIntyre expressed his eagerness to return home for this project.

In an exclusive interview with the Sunday Mail, he stated, “It’s a great story, I am working with a talented cast, and I get to film in Scotland. There is nothing about this role that isn’t perfect.” He added, “I enjoy living in the U.S., but of course I miss Scotland. I am proud to be Scottish. Any time anyone asks a question about Scotland, I’m always happy to answer and let the rest of the world know what an amazing country it is.”

Notable Cast and Production Updates

Joining McIntyre in this film are notable actors, including Dave Bautista, a former WWE star and current Marvel actor, who will take on the role of the immortal Kurgan. The original Highlander featured legendary actors Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, with Lambert portraying the 16th-century clansman MacLeod and Connery as his mentor, Ramirez. Additionally, Karen Gillan, known for her role in Doctor Who, will play Heather, the wife of Cavill’s character.

Filming was initially scheduled to commence in the Highlands later this year, but production has faced delays due to Cavill sustaining a leg injury.

As McIntyre prepares for this exciting new venture, he looks forward to reconnecting with his roots and contributing to a project that promises to celebrate Scottish culture on a global stage.
