A runner was taken to hospital after collapsing during the annual Admiral Swansea Bay 10k on September 14, 2023. The incident occurred near the finish line, prompting immediate medical attention from on-site staff. Over 5,000 runners participated in this popular event, which began at St Helen’s Ground and followed a scenic route to Mumbles before returning along the Swansea seafront.
Witnesses reported the incident to WalesOnline, confirming that a runner collapsed just before crossing the finish line. Swansea Council later issued a statement, acknowledging the situation and detailing the response. A spokesperson for the council said, “A runner experienced a medical incident during the event and received prompt attention from on-site medical staff and St John Ambulance.”
The runner was subsequently transported to Morriston Hospital for further evaluation. The council emphasized the swift actions of the medical teams, which included both onsite responders and St John Ambulance personnel.
