The Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has officially rebranded its annual awards ceremony as **The Actor Awards**. This name change aims to enhance clarity regarding the show’s focus for both domestic and international audiences. The awards have long served as a significant indicator for the Academy Awards, especially in performance categories, and the ceremony is scheduled for **March 1, 2024**, just two weeks prior to the Oscars.

The decision to adopt the new title reflects the name of the statuettes awarded to honorees each year. Despite this rebranding, SAG-AFTRA confirmed that the voting, submission, and eligibility rules will remain unchanged. Additionally, materials labeled “For Your Consideration” will continue to utilize the Screen Actors Guild Awards name until the pre-nomination voting period concludes on **January 5, 2024**.

Jon Brockett, showrunner and executive producer of The Actor Awards, expressed enthusiasm about the new direction. He stated, “Since the beginning, our statue has been called ‘The Actor’ and we’re a show that’s entirely about actors, so this new name is a perfect next step in the show’s evolution.” He emphasized that the rebranding provides clarity to viewers in over **190 countries**, allowing them to immediately grasp the essence of the ceremony.

Focus on the Craft of Acting

JoBeth Williams, chair of the Actor Awards committee, echoed Brockett’s sentiments, highlighting the importance of the awards being actor-focused. “As an actor and a longtime SAG-AFTRA member and chair of the Awards Committee, I’ve always loved that our show is actor-focused – actors voting for actors – because we understand innately the work that goes into a performance,” she commented.

Williams further noted that the new title, The Actor Awards, makes it clear to audiences that they will witness their favorite performers celebrated by their peers who truly appreciate the craft. This change underscores a commitment to recognizing the artistry of acting, fostering a sense of community among performers.

The transition to The Actor Awards marks a significant milestone in the awards’ history, aligning the branding with its mission of honoring excellence in acting. As the awards ceremony approaches, anticipation grows within the entertainment community and among fans eager to see which actors will take home the coveted statuettes.
