James May has sparked excitement among fans by hinting at a potential new adventure for *The Grand Tour*, alongside co-hosts Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond. In a recent interview with the Oxford Mail, May revealed a concept for an episode that never materialized, focusing on regions between Southeast Asia and Australia.

After departing from the BBC’s *Top Gear* in 2015, May joined Clarkson and Hammond on *The Grand Tour*, which has been a staple of automotive entertainment on Prime Video. Following over two decades of collaboration, the trio announced they would conclude their professional relationship with a final special set to air in 2024. This announcement has left many fans disheartened, especially after last year’s adventure, *The Grand Tour: One For The Road*, which showcased their travels through Zimbabwe and Botswana.

In his interview, May expressed regret about never having visited parts of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and the Philippines. “The one bit we never really went to, and it’s a part of the world I have never been to, is sort of everything between Southeast Asia and Australia,” he shared. He highlighted that they never found a compelling reason to explore that region, which he considers a missed opportunity.

When discussing what type of vehicle he would choose for this hypothetical journey, May suggested that the best experiences often come from selecting older, less desirable cars. “I always wanted to do a trip where we bought the cheapest car you could locally,” he noted. “Driving terrible cars is always much more interesting than driving really nice ones.”

As he prepares for his live show, *Explorers – The Age of Discovery Tour*, at the New Theatre in Oxford on October 21, 2024, May will delve into the stories of explorers throughout history. Using theatrical techniques and engaging storytelling, he aims to captivate audiences with tales ranging from Ice Age migrations to modern space travel.

The prospect of a new episode of *The Grand Tour* exploring Southeast Asia adds a fresh layer of anticipation for fans who have followed May, Clarkson, and Hammond throughout their extensive careers. As they prepare to wrap up their longstanding collaboration, May’s suggestions for new adventures remind viewers of the dynamic chemistry that has defined their partnership.
