A section of the M60 motorway in Trafford has been closed this morning due to a serious collision, causing significant delays for motorists. As of September 25, traffic is being held on the clockwise carriageway between junctions eight at Carrington and nine at Urmston. The incident was confirmed by National Highways, which reported that congestion is building in the area.

The closure extends from junction six at Sale to junction nine, prompting local diversions for affected drivers. A statement from Inrix indicated that “all traffic is being temporarily held and stationary traffic is due to the accident on the M60 clockwise from J8 (Carrington) to J9 A5081 Park Way (Trafford Park).” The situation escalated at approximately 06:10 local time, leading to severe traffic disruptions.

Impact on Surrounding Routes

In addition to the M60 closure, motorists are facing delays on the M602 in both directions between junctions two and three in Salford. This is attributed to an accident on the westbound carriageway, with slow-moving traffic noted on the eastbound side due to rubbernecking.

A spokesperson from National Highways provided an update, stating, “The M60 clockwise is closed between J6 (Sale) and J9 (Trafford Park) due to a serious collision. Traffic is being diverted locally.” Authorities are urging drivers to seek alternative routes while the situation is being managed.
