A tragic incident occurred in northeastern Indiana when a newborn baby, Jason Anthony Weaver, died after being attacked by the family dog. The 7-day-old infant succumbed to injuries sustained from a mauling by the family’s five-year-old husky-pit bull mix on September 4, 2025. According to the Huntington County Coroner’s Office, the infant suffered blunt-force trauma wounds.

Emergency medical services responded to the scene promptly, attempting to save the child’s life. Despite their efforts, Jason was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Animal control authorities subsequently captured the dog and placed it in quarantine for further evaluation. The coroner’s office has ruled the tragic event an accident, as the family grapples with the devastating loss.

In a statement, the coroner’s office expressed their condolences, stating, “The Huntington County Coroner’s Office extends their deepest sympathies to the Weaver family and friends.” Reports from WPTA indicate that there were no prior incidents of aggression associated with the dog.

Family’s Heartfelt Tribute

Jason’s parents, Violet Weaver and Austin Kinsey, shared an obituary online to honor their child. The tribute notes that Jason enjoyed the sounds of rock and country music, particularly the song “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”

“Though his time on this earth was short, he will be loved forever,” the obituary reads. Jason was born on August 28, 2025, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is survived by his parents and many family members.

Additional survivors include paternal grandparents Rita and Michael Wikey and Timothy Kinsey, along with a brother, Joseph Edward Weaver, and two uncles, Aaron Kinsey and Tony Kinsey. The family has also noted the passing of several great-grandparents and other relatives.

A private family graveside service will take place at Hoverstock Cemetery in Zanesville at a later date, honoring the memory of young Jason in a manner befitting his brief but cherished life.
