Residents in the Bentley area of Walsall are expressing growing concerns about their safety following an incident where a woman was injured in a collision involving a motorbike. The crash occurred at the junction of Attlee Road and Lilac Grove on the evening of September 16, 2023. The motorbike rider reportedly fled the scene after the accident, leaving the driver of the car to be taken to Walsall Manor Hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The woman, who was driving the car, was involved in the accident shortly before 20:20 local time. An eyewitness, who works in the NHS, described hearing the crash and the ensuing screams from her home. Sam Hartshorne, one of the residents who rushed to assist, remarked, “The motorbikes are always speeding around this estate; it’s awful. It’s not safe for the public.”

Local residents have noted that speeding motorbikes have become a frequent issue in the neighborhood. A man living near the crash site commented, “Motorbikes and cars come down here too fast.” He pointed out that many of these vehicles seem to come from a specific direction, contributing to the ongoing danger.

Another resident, sitting at a nearby bus stop, acknowledged that while he has not personally experienced problems with speeding vehicles, he is aware that others in the community have voiced their concerns. The situation has escalated to the extent that residents feel unsafe in their own neighborhood.

In response to the collision, West Midlands Police have launched an appeal for information. A police spokesperson stated, “We were called to reports of a collision between a car and motorbike on Attlee Road, Walsall just before 20:20. Officers attended alongside other emergency service colleagues, and a woman who was in the car was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-changing or life-threatening.”

The police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward. They can be reached by calling 101 or using the Live Chat option on the police website, quoting incident number 5262 of September 16, 2023.

As concerns about public safety continue to grow, residents are calling for increased police presence and measures to address the speeding issue. The hope is that with community efforts and police support, incidents like this can be reduced, restoring a sense of safety in the Bentley estate.
