Manchester City goalkeeper and England youth international True Grant has officially joined Stoke City on a permanent transfer. The 19-year-old, who was previously on loan at Buxton in the National League North, will now aim to secure a position in the Championship leaders’ first team.

During his loan spell at Buxton, Grant made a significant impact, achieving 10 clean sheets in 40 appearances and helping the club reach the play-offs. His performance marked a promising start to his senior career, showcasing his potential as a goalkeeper. Grant is no stranger to accolades; he was part of the FA Youth Cup winning squad with Manchester City in the 2023/24 season, where he played every match and notably kept a clean sheet in the final against Leeds United, which ended in a 4-0 victory.

Having joined Manchester City from Derby County at the age of 12, Grant’s journey through the youth ranks included 14 appearances for the club’s Under-21 team in the Premier League 2. He also made a brief appearance on the bench for Pep Guardiola’s team during a Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade in December 2023.

Stoke City’s sporting director Jonathan Walters expressed enthusiasm about Grant’s arrival, stating, “True has shown his quality at Manchester City and during his loan spell at Buxton, and he is regarded as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in the country.” Walters emphasized that Grant’s addition is part of a strategy to strengthen the goalkeeping unit, which already includes established players such as Viktor Johansson, Jack Bonham, and Frank Fielding.

Walters also highlighted the importance of Grant’s family connection to Stoke City, noting, “His dad, Lee Grant, was a hugely respected player here and a fantastic person too. We’re delighted to welcome True into the Stoke City family, and I’m sure he knows what it means to wear the badge.”

With this transfer, True Grant embarks on a new chapter in his career, looking to establish himself within a competitive environment at Stoke City. As he steps onto the pitch for the Potters, fans and coaches alike will be eager to see how his skills and experiences translate into his contributions at the Championship level.
