Trump Calls for Investigation into Pelosi’s Stock Trading Claims

US President Donald Trump has renewed his accusations against former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, alleging that she profited illegally from insider trading. This claim surfaces as Congress considers new legislation aimed at prohibiting elected officials from engaging in stock trading.

The proposed legislation, known as the Preventing Elected Leaders from Owning Securities and Investments (PELOSI) Act, seeks to extend restrictions not only to lawmakers but also to the president and vice president. Trump stated on Wednesday, “Nancy Pelosi became rich by having insider information… I think Nancy Pelosi should be investigated!” He further asserted that at 84 years old, Pelosi has achieved “the highest return of anybody, practically in the history of Wall Street, save a few,” claiming she possesses advanced knowledge of market movements.

Pelosi, a prominent and influential figure in American politics, is one of the wealthiest members of Congress, with an estimated net worth exceeding $240 million. Her wealth is largely attributed to high-profile investments in technology stocks, including Nvidia and Apple, as well as various real estate holdings. According to estimates from Investopedia, her stock portfolio has generated returns surpassing 700% since 2014.

This is not the first time Trump has raised concerns about Pelosi’s financial dealings. Last year, he pointed to her husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi, who sold shares of Visa worth between $500,000 and $1 million. This transaction occurred shortly before the US Department of Justice filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Visa, alleging that the company was illegally monopolizing the debit card market.

In response to Trump’s latest accusations, Pelosi labeled them as “ridiculous” during a television interview on Thursday. She emphasized that the investments made by her husband are not related to insider information. Pelosi remarked that Trump frequently deflects criticism by attributing his own traits to others, reflecting her long-standing opposition to him.

Having served as House Speaker twice, from 2007 to 2011 and again from 2019 to 2023, Pelosi has been one of Trump’s most vocal critics. She has previously characterized him in stark terms, calling him a “snake-oil salesman” and “the creature from the Black Lagoon.” Additionally, she played a significant role in the impeachment proceedings against Trump during his prior term in office.

Trump has consistently criticized Pelosi, labeling her an “evil, sick, crazy, horrible human being” and claiming she poses “trouble for our country.” He has labeled her America’s “enemy from within,” a sentiment he reiterated during his campaign last year.

The ongoing tensions between Trump and Pelosi highlight the broader debates within Congress regarding ethics and financial transparency among lawmakers. As the PELOSI Act gains traction, the discussions surrounding accountability in financial dealings by elected officials are likely to intensify.
