Alan Sugar Threatens Legal Action Against Jamie Redknapp Over Comments
Alan Sugar has announced plans to take legal action against Jamie Redknapp following remarks made during a Sky Sports broadcast about Tottenham Hotspur. Redknapp, 52, discussed the recent departure of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who left the role after 24 years. The former player indicated that Levy had inherited a “total mess” from Sugar, who was chairman and part-owner of the club from 1991 to 2001.
Redknapp’s comments came during a discussion about Levy’s significant impact on the club’s financial stability and future prospects. He praised Levy, 63, for transforming Tottenham into a financial powerhouse, contrasting it with the challenges he faced when he took over from Sugar.
Sugar, now 78, reacted strongly to Redknapp’s remarks on social media, labeling him a “double barrel idiot.” He expressed his discontent with the assertion that he left Tottenham in disarray, stating, “He talks a load of rubbish.” Sugar further threatened legal action against both Redknapp and Sky Sports, asserting, “He and SKY will be hearing from my lawyers Monday.”
Despite this controversy, both Sugar and Redknapp were likely pleased with Tottenham’s recent performance. The team secured a convincing 3-0 victory over West Ham at the London Stadium. The match featured an early goal from Pape Matar Sarr, who scored from a corner, followed by a red card for West Ham’s Tomas Soucek. Goals from Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven sealed the win, leaving Tottenham level on points with league leaders Arsenal, with the only difference being goal difference.
As the situation evolves, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and what impact, if any, they will have on the relationships within the Tottenham community. SunSport has reached out to Sky Sports for further comment on Sugar’s statements and the ongoing dispute.
