Michael Deane Launches New Smash Burger Venture in East Belfast

Award-winning chef and restaurateur Michael Deane is set to expand his culinary influence with a new venture in East Belfast. Alongside business partner Karl Wilkinson, Deane will launch a restaurant named FLINK, which will focus on smash burgers. The announcement follows over 30 years of Deane’s prominence in the local food and drink scene, with existing establishments such as Deanes at Queens and Deanes Meatlocker already showcasing his culinary expertise.
The new eatery will be located in Ballyhackamore, specifically at the former site of the Squid Shack on Upper Newtownards Road. Although detailed plans for the menu have yet to be disclosed, Deane’s social media post hints at an exciting concept that will feature the best of Irish beef, paired with Deane’s own wines and soft serve ice cream.
In his announcement, Deane noted the timing of the launch coincides with National Burger Day, stating, “A fun smash burger concept serving the best of Irish beef, Deanes own wines, soft serve ice cream, great tunes and so much more.” The excitement surrounding this venture highlights the growing interest in high-quality, casual dining options in the area.
Ballyhackamore will see another new establishment open shortly, as the owners of Neill’s Hill plan to take over the space previously occupied by Il Pirata. This influx of new dining options indicates a revitalization of the local food scene, providing residents and visitors with diverse culinary experiences.
As the preparations for FLINK continue, food enthusiasts can look forward to more updates on the opening and specific offerings. The establishment aims to create a vibrant atmosphere, combining quality food with a lively setting, appealing to a broad audience.

This initiative aims to keep the public informed while celebrating the rich culinary landscape of Northern Ireland.
Deane’s new venture is not just a business move; it reflects his commitment to enhancing the local food culture and providing exceptional dining experiences in East Belfast. As the opening date approaches, anticipation grows for what promises to be a noteworthy addition to the region’s gastronomic offerings.
