Stagecoach Expands Bus Services in Cambridge for New School Year
Cambridgeshire’s Busway will see an increase in bus services ahead of the new academic year, designed to accommodate the expected rise in passenger numbers. This move, announced by Stagecoach East, comes as students and residents prepare to return to school and college this September.
To enhance capacity, Stagecoach East plans to introduce additional buses into its regular rotation. This change will be implemented from September 1 to September 5, 2023, coinciding with peak travel times for students and commuters. The company has also stated that official ticket sellers will be present at the St Ives and Longstanton Park & Ride locations during the busiest morning hours, aimed at reducing boarding times.
Darren Roe, Managing Director of Stagecoach East, emphasized the importance of the Busway as a vital transit route into the city. “The Busway is a hugely important artery into the city, and so we are proud to be an essential part of getting so many people to school, college, and work,” he remarked. He added that these investments are expected to significantly reduce travel times while maintaining service viability.
Despite the enhancements, Roe advised passengers to anticipate busy periods, particularly between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM. Outside of these peak hours, the Busway is expected to be less crowded. He encouraged customers to use the Stagecoach App for journey planning, which offers features such as live bus tracking, journey information, and mobile ticket purchasing.
Purchasing tickets in advance is also recommended, as it helps to streamline the boarding process and ensures timely services. Roe highlighted the app’s convenience, stating, “Buying your tickets before you travel is an excellent way that all customers can play a part in helping to reduce boarding times.”
The Cambridgeshire Guided Busway is recognized as the longest guided busway in the world, connecting key areas including Cambridge, Huntingdon, and St Ives. These enhancements in service reflect Stagecoach East’s commitment to providing efficient transport solutions as the new school year begins.
